There is / There are Nedir?
There is ve There are, İngilizce'de bir yerde bir şeyin var olduğunu belirtmek için kullanılır. Türkçe'de "var" kelimesiyle karşılık bulur. Tekil isimler için There is, çoğul isimler için There are kullanılır.
Tekil Kullanım: There is
Sayılamayan isimler (su, süt, ekmek) veya tekil sayılabilir isimler (bir kitap, bir masa) için There is kullanırız.
Örnek: There is a book on the table. — Masada bir kitap var.
Örnek: There is milk in the fridge. — Buzdolabında süt var.
Örnek: There is a cat in the garden. — Bahçede bir kedi var.
Çoğul Kullanım: There are
Birden fazla nesne veya sayılabilir çoğul isimler için There are kullanırız.
Örnek: There are three books on the shelf. — Rafta üç kitap var.
Örnek: There are many students in the class. — Sınıfta çok öğrenci var.
Örnek: There are apples in the basket. — Sepette elmalar var.
💡 "a" tekil için kullanılır: There is a dog. "some" belirsiz miktar için: There are some dogs.
Olumsuz Cümle
Olumsuz yapıda There isn't (there is not) ve There aren't (there are not) kullanılır.
Örnek: There isn't any milk. — Hiç süt yok.
Örnek: There aren't any chairs. — Hiç sandalye yok.
Örnek: There isn't a problem. — Sorun yok.
Soru Cümlesi
Soru formunda "is" ve "are" cümlenin başına alınır.
Örnek: Is there a bathroom? — Banyo var mı?
Örnek: Are there any questions? — Soru var mı?
Örnek: Is there milk in the coffee? — Kahvede süt var mı?
Some ve Any ile Kullanım
Some olumlu cümlelerde "biraz, birkaç" anlamında kullanılır. Any olumsuz ve soru cümlelerinde "hiç" anlamına gelir.
- There is some water. — Biraz su var.
- There are some eggs. — Birkaç yumurta var.
- There isn't any sugar. — Hiç şeker yok.
- Are there any tomatoes? — Domates var mı?
⚠️ "Any" olumlu cümlede "herhangi bir" anlamında da kullanılabilir: You can take any book. — Herhangi bir kitabı alabilirsin.
